Abstract

Ecotechnology / ecological engineering as a „partnership with nature” idea based body of knowledge and methodology for ecosystem management represents itself a reasonable innovation for sustainable development education enhancement. An inspiring example of such an ecotechnological approach rooted educational experience has been discussed; namely, relevant analysis has been focused on cognitive achievements gained through development of Professional Master study program „Ecotechnologies” at Liepaja University (Latvia). Program`s implementation stimulates development of ecotechnological thinking (contrasted with conventional narrow engineering approach which dominates in professional environmental studies) related interdisciplinary competencies, creativity skills, holistic reasoning capabilities, etc. enhancing thus students` professionalism and ensuring their adaptability to changing market of environmental jobs. Interdisciplinarisation as program`s paradigmatic cornerstone has been favoured expressly through development of the following complementary subdivisions: 1) environmental technology, 2) environmental economics, and 3) environmental psychology & health; with designing innovative content courses like environmental systems dynamic, advertisement psychology, eco-innovation, health-resort science, environmental social anthropology, etc. Such an approach particularly promotes a) a deepened insight into sustainability issues, b) diversification of students` employment potentials, c) development of students` personality, including their psychological attraction towards ecotechnological lifestyle, d) local environment and development specifity awareness.
