THE PRESERVATION OF MEMORY OF THE PARTISAN MOVEMENT IN 1941 - 1944 IN THE NORTH-WEST OF RUSSIA

Abstract

The history of the organisation of trips to places of Military Glory of the partisans of the Leningrad region is discussed in the article. The very first routes were paved by veterans of the partisan movement. In the 60-70-ies of the XX century the Soviet Party authorities joined in the organization of memorial tourism. For tourists (especially for the young ones) dozens of routes related to the history of the Great Patriotic War were offered. They included not only the familiarization with the places of fighting and memorials, laying wreaths and holding rallies at the monuments, but also communicating with veterans of the partisan movement . In that way, Soviet authorities of the State Security Department were looking for witnesses to the crimes of the Nazis and their accomplices. By the early 90-ies, this type of tourism has practically ceased to exist. But the beginning of the XXI century marked its revival. New routes include "immersion in the era" and various interactive methods of presentation. Preserving the memory of partisan movement in Northwestern Russia is becoming an important aspect of patriotic education.
