THE OLDEST WOODEN EASTERN ORTHODOX TEMPLES IN THE NORTHERN PODLASIE REGION
Abstract
This text is a trial to capture the issue of the oldest wooden orthodox temples in the northern Podlasie region in Poland. The researches were based on available literature and, most of all, on source studies, archival queries and field studies. The previous research outcomes of the author were also used. The first part of the article depicts the general conditions of developing the orthodox architecture in the region. In the next part a basic typology of analyzed orthodox churches is presented. The form of projection and templeВ’s body/cell are the main criteria. The photos and drawings were picked to characterize the theme in an essential extend.
