MATTHIAS CORVINUS KING AND MAIN COORDINATES OF HIS POLICY
Abstract
Matthias Corvinus was a spectacular monarch. Continuing the policy of John Hunyadi, and great political thinker of South East European world, Matthias Corvinus had an important role in the Orthodox world, the Moldo-Wallachian and the Russian one. Matthias Corvinus was the most important person in the pyramid of power in South East Europe in his time. Matthias used a model involving a takeover of power in Hungary, based on three pillars, first, kinship with the Serbian dynasty of the holy martyr king. This is an important relationship, a relationship with Christ relics, kinship with the martyr Tsar Lazarus relics, and the impact of this sacred line in Europe was important. The kinship with the Cantacuzino imperial family made up the second pillar, which led naturally to open claim upon Constantinople. The third pillar was the direct succession of Sigismund of Luxembourg. Matthias Corvinus would be involved in the politics in Bohemia and Vienna acting against papal orders. He also appointed Maxim Brankovic high councillor, allowed him to bring to Buda the relics of his royal canonized ancestors, where he reverently honoured them (maybe here was the starting point of his intention to do the same with his father), Matthias being Maxim's relative through the wives of the two.
