THE IMAGE OF STALIN IN THE WORLD CINEMA
Abstract
The image of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin is very popular in the world cinema. You can see Stalin in more than one hundred and thirty films. This is a record compared to other historical figures. How true is Stalin depicted in feature films? How did the trends of the times and the evaluation of society affect the process of creating his image? These questions require study and answer. All films where you can see Stalin can be divided into three categories: 1) "Comedy Stalin"; 2) "Stalin in the episodes"; 3) "Stalin as a historical figure." Unfortunately, in most films there are a number of false stereotypes. Firstly, a grotesque image of the atmosphere of gloom and grayness as opposed to the official and ceremonial life of the Soviet Union. Secondly, the Americanized model of a business collective atmosphere, which was absolutely not inherent in the Stalinist cabinet style of decision-making. Thirdly, the erroneous historical costumes and interiors, which affects the incorrect evaluation of Stalin's personality. It is regrettable that the producers and authors of the script do not attract serious historians, Sovietologists as consultants to the process of preparing for the films. This leads to distortion and incorrect perception of Stalin as a historical figure. Cinema largely reflects the views and assessments of society. And this is its subjectivity. However, with all this, the cinema must be historically reliable and rely on proven historical facts.
