Abstract

The conceptuality of the term socialism as a very broad and definitely not closed issue in modern political philosophy. The content perspective of our work will therefore be split into three basic parts: introduction of the issue and historical overview of theories, opinions and directions of socialism in the past, presented by the most prominent authors - qualified specialists; in the second part we will focus our attention on many controversial, but also immanent terms closely related to the development of socialism - socialist state, social justice, equality and ideas of transformation into communism and the idea of totalities, and last but not least we will try to look also at our own historical experience, ideologies and geopolitical environment of the development of the Slovak Republic until 1989. The last, third part will be focused on finding a parallel between past and present, and thus introduce elements of postmodernism into socialism. We will try to point out certain myths and misconceptions of understanding the terms of socialism, communism, totalities, define differences between them, again using reasonable arguments with the support and reference to the work and ideas of many authors and experts on these topics, or given period. We trust we will meet these ambitious goals of our essay defined at the beginning as accurately as possible and thus create a unit of interesting analysis of the issue of socialism for the present. The methodology used in our work will strictly follow and copy the need to meet all of the above stated goals, therefore we will be primarily using the descriptive, research and analytical method in the beginning and subsequently also the comparative method for the needs to compare several aspects and examples from practice. In the conclusion we will use synthesis, specifically to organize all of the knowledge and factors to achieve as comprehensive summary as possible of the issue of socialism in the current political philosophy. Deeper reflection will lead us to deliberations on the morality of political representatives and leaders in these countries, others maybe to the very nature of the regime as such.
