SECURITY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC
Abstract
The Slovak Republic provides the security for an every citizen throughout its territory. At the local level, the community is concerned about creating a safe environment within its territory. One of the ways to create such an environment is to use the services of municipal police. It helps to ensure security and to reduce illegal activities at the local self-government level. Municipal police is a unit responsible for maintaining law and order in the municipalities, environmental protection, and fulfillment of tasks resulting from generally binding regulations, regulations of the municipality and resolutions of the municipal council and the decision of the mayor. This paper is designed for a number of communities in the Slovak Republic where the municipal police are used. We are comparing rural communities using municipal police services with rural communities that usually do not use it. Analogously, it was conducted in cities as well. This comparison was made on the basis of two criteria, namely the number of local authorities using this kind of service and the number of citizens protected by the police. At the end of the article, the general results are shown on the total number of population of the Slovak Republic.
