IMPORTANCE AND ROLE OF NEW MEDIA IN THE PROCESS OF MEDIA LITERACY EDUCATION
Abstract
Increasing the level of media literacy of all age groups is one of the key competences emphasized not only by Slovak interior policy, but also that of the European Union. The objective of this paper is to call attention to the importance and the role of new media in media literacy education. Two specific groups are being examined – a group of children and youngsters as well as a group of seniors. In analyzing scientific literature, questionnaires and personal interviews, we were trying to determine what the importance of new media is in the life of juniors and seniors and what their potentiality is in increasing media literacy level. This paper`s objective is to point out the possibilities of closing the generation gap that was created by new media.
