HOMEWORK AND PUPIL'S HOME PREPARATION FOR LESSONS AT SCHOOL FROM THE PARENTS' PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The authors focus on the issue of pupilsВ’ preparation for school at home the first years of compulsory school attendence from the parental optics. During this period a basic sense of obligation to school duties by pupils is created. Parents acquire new social roles - the role of parents of a schoolchild. According to the Slovak School Act No. 245/2008 Coll., one of the parentsВ’ duties is to support schoolchildren to prepare for lessons at home. The aim of the study is to determine and analyze the current views of parents on making homework and pupilsВ’ home preparation for lessons at school. From the most significant results it is possible to emphasize that 70% of parents of pupils in the 1st grade always help children with homework as opposed to parents of older pupils (3rd year), when only 45% of parents always help their children. Similar results were also achieved in controlling of homework by parents where parents of the first-year pupils were significantly more committed than parents of pupils in the 3rd year. Mothers are mostly involved into the home preparation for lessons at school.
