NEW APPROACHES FOR MEDICAL EDUCATION IN ORTHOPAEDICS BY OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Abstract
The present paper presents new approaches in orthopaedic and rehabilitation training within the framework of COR-skills project. COR-skills is an ERASMUS+ funded project that started in december 2015 and will finish in december 2017, based on collaboration between hospitals and Higher Education Institutes from different European countries. The project aimes to develop, test and adapt a continous vocational educational medical programme, developed on an exhaustive needs analysis and focusing on a “real-life” transnational approach. The major output of the project is an e-learning platform including case studies and video images that gives to the trainees the possibility to follow training materials, evaluate knowledge, communicate with specialists and adapt standard procedures according to each patient own particularities (patient focused interventions). The major impact of the project consists in improvement of medical skills in the field of orthopedy and rehabilitation (assesment, decision, treatment protocols in different pathologies). This will function as a virtual medical environment, similar with the work place and help attune curricula to current and emerging labour market needs and equip the specialists with required skills. The innovation consists in development of procedures that will allow to advance the physician-patient communications process and enhance the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Implementation of individualised health care approaches is one of the major innovations of this project, encouraging critical thinking of the trainees, reinforced quality of medical services, increasing the level of health care, decreasing the rehabilitation time and health costs, development of inter-sectorial and international collaborative cultures by sharing of knowledge and ideas from teaching to work-place.
