TOURISM VALORIZATION OF ROMANIAN CRAFTS AND TRADITIONS - OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP THE SOCIAL ECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LARGEST MIGRATION IN THE HISTORY OF ROMANIA

Abstract

The cultural heritage of the Romanians has often been highlighted internationally, being part of the country's brand, regardless if it's about traditions, crafts or built heritage. At the same time, Romania is an important tourist destination although it is difficult to say whether the long-term development strategy will ever make tourism a national priority. However, and in the absence of an integrated strategy, the country has several strong tourist destinations, and Bucovina region is one of them, but that is really not enough. Rural areas are becoming poorer, the population is going through an aging process that has become irreversible and young people who are able to work leave the country as soon as they finish their studies. This paper aims to analyse whether cultural tourism could be a way to attract tourists in a sustainable way, supporting the development of social economy and enriching rural areas, and also attempting to slow the massive exodus of the working-class population.
