ARCHAISM AS A BASIS OF ORNAMENTATION IN THE ART OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS

Abstract

As a rule, the elucidation of the artistic image of decorative and applied art work is contributed by the ornamental dГ©cor it contains. During the study of material monuments of culture of the North Caucasus people it was revealed that local ornament is not just a decoration, but above all, is the unity of the semantic integrity of the creative origin of elements, each of which has the status of a sign - symbol. In the context of the stated problem, the author considers the study of artistic and expressive, and semantic features of decorative motifs and compositions of products of applied arts of the North Caucasus people, and determination of main archetypes of ornamental groups on this basis as the main purpose of this work. The subjects of research are the principles and regularities of artistic and ornamental forming of ornamental decor in the applied arts of the North Caucasus people in their evolutionary variability or constancy. The object of research is the traditional ornament in samples of decorative and applied arts of folk artists: felted and woven carpets, embroidery, metalwork and wood processing. Methodological and theoretical basis of the study constitute the general scientific principles, namely: analysis, comparison and generalization. The author also uses the semiotic approach widely used in cultural studies, relying on the works of domestic researchers on the problem, uses its own "field" experience.
