EUROPEAN IMPLICATION IN TOURISM REGARDING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AROUND THE BLACK SEA
Abstract
The present paper addresses the subject of developing sustainable tourism in the Black Sea basin in conjunction and cooperation with the European Commission's concerns on maritime tourism in this part of Europe. The first part of the paper discusses the theoretical framework, and defines the concepts of "sustainable development" and "sustainable tourism" as well as describes the main milestones leading to a sustainable development of tourism. It continues with the presentation of the six coastal countries Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and their economic and tourism potentials. The research was based on a thorough analysis of the scientific literature and of the European bodies involved in the process of economic, political, investment- and tourism cooperation in the six coastal countries. The paper has presented the geopolitical importance of the Black Sea, with reference to the presence of great powers and world organizations as well as European ones in the Black Sea (NATO, USA, EU). As conclusion, one should never forget the fact that tourism around the Black Sea is to be politically accepted, without compromising its durability.
