COMPARATIVE PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDY REGARDING THE CONTENT OF PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS WITH HEPATOPROTECTIVE ACTION

Abstract

In this study, we attempted to identify the polyphenolic compounds of two species of the genus Parietaria (fam. Urticaceae), namely Parietaria lusitanica L., harvested from Toulouse (France) and an indigenous species, Parietaria officinalis L., harvested from the forest Fantanita-Murfatlar (Constanta county, Romania). The work method used for the qualitative and quantitative differentiation of the polyphenolic compounds in the vegetal products of these species was high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The following polyphenolic compounds were identified: caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, gallic acid and vanillin. The presence of polyphenolic carboxylic acids (caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid) in these vegetal products account for their use in liver and kidney pathologies, in allergy, in hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia, obesity and atherosclerosis.
