MUSEUM SPACE AS A MODERN STORYTELLING MEDIUM: NEW NARRATIVE MODEL OF EXHIBITION IN YAD VASHEM AND WADOWICE MUSEUMS

Abstract

In this work, authors present the study of two examples of modern museums, i.e. the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem (YVHHM, Israel) and the Family Home of John Paul II Museum in Wadowice (JP2FHM, Poland). The main objective of the research was to analyze the influence of the multi-method style of narration on stimulating learning environments in both museums. On the first stage of the study, the literature review was prepared. On the basis of the other authorsВ’ observations as well as own experiences, the analysis for the museums was conducted. The YVHHM was discussed as a storytelling medium that introduces to visitors historical time during the Holocaust. On the other hand, the JP2FHM was investigated as a stimulating learning environment which was designed for telling a story about museum heroВ’s life. Finally, taken into considerations the differences as well as similarities the comparison for the museums were prepared. As a main conclusion of the research authors formulated observations that modern museums are an important part of current communication space. The Yad Vashem and the Family Home of John Paul II museums proofed that these institutions can be the effective medium of difficult messages.
