Abstract

Non-governmental organizations belong to the third sector and operate in the economy along with public administration (the first sector) and the business sector (second sector). Nowadays, most national economies are based on these three pillars, which form the basis for the cooperation, partnership and development. The purpose of non-governmental organizations is to meet social needs, therefore they are often called the foundation of a civil society. Non-governmental organizations present on the Polish market are increasingly realizing their goals through unique and complex activities that are named projects. Project have become permanent in the life of the organization - they are a response to changes taking place in the organization's environment and fulfill many important functions in it. There are organizations in Poland that implement their projects in the concept of sustainable development. Sustainable project management can be understood as the use of sustainable and ecological practices in projects to minimize the project's impact on the environment (green project management) or to ensure that projects and their results give long-term results to both stakeholders and the environment. This article is a case study where the author explains what actions are taken by the selected non-governmental organization and how it manages projects to act in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. The publication will allow to find answers to basic and more advanced questions about the directions and topics taken by non-governmental organizations in Poland and how these activities can be extended to other organizations and sectors.
