Abstract

Art education has brought hope to the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. This study will empirically examine the process of learning through participation in a musical and the role that the musical played for the disaster victims. Through this examination, the present study will discuss the nature and significance of learning. Through interview of the disaster victims, this study will clarify the process of learning through a musical, especially how the affect and emotions of the victims change, what can deeply transform people, and how the victimsВ’ attitudes and behaviors change through participation. Examining these points will, in turn, aid in our critical examination of the existing theories of learning.
