FORCES AND RESOURCES FOR MANAGING EMERGENCY
Abstract
Floods are the most common disaster in the Slovak Republic and cause great material damages. For this reason, it is important to give specific attention to them. In case of their occurrence, it is necessary for municipalities to be capable to respond to these situations. In this context, the Ministry of the Interior has developed and implemented a system of nationwide deployment of forces and resources of fire brigades in the Slovak Republic. In essence, it is a system of organization and deployment of fire brigades depending on the degree of danger in the cadastral area. This caused a massive establishment of voluntary fire brigades of municipalities and their provision in terms of personnel and technology. The personal involvement of residents into voluntary activities has a positive effect on their preparedness to deal with disaster or other crisis events. The primary role of these fire brigades is to perform tasks related to the implementation of rescue work in the cadastral area of the municipality, protection of life and health of residents, property and the environment. Voluntary fire brigades in the municipality currently have modern firefighting equipment for more effective solutions to large-scale and flash floods and other types of emergencies. The material equipment of these brigades will be analyzed and subsequently compared. Through the statistical evaluation, conclusions will be drawn regarding the amount of forces and resources with an impact on the possible strengthening of the preparedness of the municipality and its population for floods in the future.
