FILM TOURISM AND ITS POSSIBILITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE CASE OF SLOVAKIA

Abstract

Film tourism as one of the new tourism trends is becoming more popular between the visitors of some countries. This form of tourism may consist of some other forms including visiting the film locations, film studios or film festivals. Moreover, some film locations worldwide might attract high amount of visitors and generate higher return. The Game of Thrones movie is supposed to generate 10 % out of all visitors in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where the film was shot. The article deals with the most famous film locations worldwide and their influence on visitors’ number. We have run a research in Slovakia as well, in which we identified those film locations, where famous movies were shot (e.i. Fantaghiro in Bojnice Castle). The qualitative research interview between the managers of two castles (Orava castle and Bojnice castle) seek to find the answers on questions about the promotion of the movies shot at their castle, about the interest of visitors, etc. Moreover, we run the qualitative research interview between 25 travel agencies in Slovakia. The aim of interview was to find out, whether they offer the excursions to the film locations, or whether they find it interesting for their customers. According to the research, Slovakia has a potential for film tourism, but it needs better promotion for the future.
