THE ROLE OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN PROFESSIONAL EVOLUTION OF STUDENTS IN DENTAL MEDICINE

Abstract

This study aims to capture the relationship between emotional intelligence, self-esteem and optimism in professional success among students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Craiova. In this respect, at this research participated 211 students in the final year of the aforementioned faculty. The study was conducted between April and June 2018 as part of career guidance activities conducted within a European financed project. Four psychological tests have been used to capture the level of emotional intelligence (in this sense an Emotional Intelligence Test (EIT) has been used), the level of self-esteem (by applying the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), the Personal Autonomy Test and the Optimism Scale Degree (through the Personal Autonomy (PA) and the Optimization Assessment Questionnaire (OAQ) of the CAS-Cognitrom Psychological Testing Platform). Data analysis was performed using the SPSS statistical modeling software. The results highlighted that there is a high level of emotional intelligence of future dental practitioners, and it is associated with a high level of self-esteem and optimism, aspects that sustain their subsequent professional success and the power to overcome all the obstacles with which the participants in the study will face in the way of their success.
