PROVIDING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AS A CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGE
Abstract
Among the people threatened with marginalization are people with various disabilities, who, for the subjective reasons, have limited opportunities to satisfy their own needs and experience difficulties with social integration. With the democratic standards, these people should be provided support in various areas of life while providing equal opportunities for education and vocational and social life. The social aspect of disabilities is being more and more often emphasized, which means that the problem results not only from biological defects but rather from barriers these people meet and lack of opportunities for meeting their needs. Striving for normalization and empowerment of people with disabilities are the major objectives of social policy in Poland. The goals are achieved with extended support programs in local environments. The study presents activities of social services in the area of Cz?stochowa that support social functioning of people with disabilities
