PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF PRAYER IN THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF ROMANIAN STUDENTS
Abstract
One of the basic human psychological necessities is the need to have a connection with absolute superior being which is God. In this article we explored how the Romanian students relate to transcendent (religious representations), how important is prayer in their spiritual lives and how parents' spirituality is reflected in their lives. In Orthodox Christian tradition spirituality is the essence of religious life. The purpose of this descriptive study was (a) to investigate how students use prayer as a way to cope with the problems they face, (b) to examine the frequency and type of prayer that they use in different contexts and (c) to determine whether prayer is practiced as a spiritual exercise to balance mental (meditation techniques) or as a bridge to living connection with God (their inner essence of religiosity). The research was conducted on a sample of Romanian students from different majors and the results showed that the spiritual ethos of the Romanian people is found in every person and prayer is practiced by Romanian students in different contexts of their lives.
