EXPERIENCE OF TAXONOMY OF SHORTENED LEXEMES IN ENGLISH AND GERMAN
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to give the reader some information on the topic of В«classification of shortened wordsВ». In this paper we have analyzed the research of shortened words in Germanic languages, defined similarities and described differences. The variety of taxonomic approaches give us an opportunity to investigate shortened words in English and German languages in a true sense. In this article, we will show the difference of various classifications in Germanic languages. Many scientists investigated the process of taxonomy of lexical shortened words both in English and German languages. According to our opinion, all these lexemes can be divided into two main groups. The first one is abbreviation group consisting of initialisms and their varieties. The second one is clipping group with their own taxonomy. Every linguist represents his or her taxonomy based on the analysis of a special class. We will demonstrate the taxonomy of all shortened lexical units nevertheless their subdivisions by various scientists and give our classification based on the previous ones.
