THE CHURCH INTERIORS MADE BY EXILED PAINTERS IN VYATKA: FINDINGS AND DISCOVERIES 2016
Abstract
The goal of the research is to reconstruct the interior and iconostasis of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (1839–1864) in Vyatka (now Kirov, Russia) and the Dormitory church in Kukarka (now Sovetsk, Kirov region). Both are associated with names of exiled capital architect Alexander Vitberg and painter and architect Micha?o Elwiro Andriolli (correspondingly). The passing results of findings and researches made in 2016 are represented in this article. Research methods include archival and bibliographic stages, the iconographic and stylistic analysis of sources. Reconstruction of the iconographic program of the iconostasis and the interior design is the result of work. Photos and study of archival documents, their analysis and subsequent reconstruction provide an opportunity to recreate the interiors sufficiently. We have already published six volumes of the Code of architecture and monumental art of Kirov region. The research is of great significance for the culture, history, education and tourism of Vyatka. It also helps to expand knowledge of provincial Russia.
