METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING THE LEISURE TIME OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Abstract
People with Down syndrome are slowly and not at all familiar with the notion of leisure time. From our previous research we found out that most of the adults with Down syndrome are at home, with no rehabilitation, or educational or therapeutically services. There are some occupational / vocational centers in some cities across the country. In the urban area, the adults with DS that belong to a NGO are doing sport, dance, leisure and occupational activities from time to time. All the others and especially those living in rural areas are at home doing nothing but just watching TV. Thus, through the DS LEISURE project (2017-1-RO01-KA204-037465), a project funded by the European Commission under ERASMUS + 2017-2019, 12 young people with Down syndrome from Romania were able to learn how to organize their free time, identify with a platform the preferred activities and experience with others different ways of spending leisure time. At the end of the experimental activity a satisfaction questionnaire was applied, the results of which indicated that our young people positively appreciated the project in which they participated and learned many things related to the organization of leisure time.
