THE FAMILY VACATION AND COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION IN A NEW PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The classic idea of „family vacation” regards travelling in different places accompanied by family members, on various distances, using different forms of organization and usually planned in advance. Collaborative consumption as a phenomenon is a class of economic arrangements in which participants share access to products or services, rather than having individual ownership (“what's mine is yours”). Applied in tourism this new concept tries to give a new dimension of the touristic phenomenon, bypassing traditional customs: in this case, the idea of family tourism is viewed from a different perspective, namely tourism activity in a "family" providing accommodation to the visitors, meals (if applicable) and other activities previously set out, negotiated and meticulously planned. Tourists choose this form for various reasons: low prices, flexibility, the possibility of having a personal local guide without paying extra (this usually is negotiated in advance) and, especially, the opportunity to have direct contact and untainted culture, local customs and lifestyle.
