INFORMATION SYSTEMS: NEW METHODS OF RUSSIAN HISTORY SOURCES STUDY
Abstract
The research is purposed to explore the role and value of the source-oriented information systems for the modern information environment of historical science. It is aimed to characterize source-oriented information systems as a new type of historical source and meta source; study the possibility of applying new methods and technologies, research practice of preservation, organization, visualization and analysis of historical sources; obtain a new historical knowledge on relevant issues of political and social history of Russia. The research approved that source-oriented systems are the most effective means of preservation and inclusion to historical and interdisciplinary research of historical sources. The role and importance of source-oriented systems as a base for the effective application and enrichment of historical and interdisciplinary research methods and increment of historical knowledge are confirmed. Information potential of source-oriented systems depends on the level of saving primary sources content. Their research capabilities are largely associated with storage and representation formats, level data structuring, models, and embedded research tools. They determine the range of tasks and methods which can be based on source-oriented system and define its efficiency as the investigation tool.
