SOUTHERN ENTREPRENEURS AND INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CAPITALISM: VITO DI CAGNO, ENTREPRENEUR AND BANKER FROM BARI, ACTIVE BETWEEN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 1880S AND THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Abstract
The paper illustrates the history of the merchant, banker and entrepreneur, Vito Di Cagno, born from an outstanding family of rich shipowners and merchants of the city of Bari, in the region of Puglia, in the Italian South, and of his extraordinary capacity for socio-economic affirmation in a promising and expansive historical phase of the economy of the southern regions that preceded the First World War, during the Giolittian era. He managed to undertake successful strategies to achieve the control of important sectors of the local economy.
