THE MULTIMEDIA PROJECT FOR CHILDREN TODDLER PUNK: ?ULINOВ’S MUSICAL STORIES
Abstract
In contemporary creation for children and young people there is an increasing production of works with intermedia characteristics. Interdisciplinary cooperation of experts in the field of individual types of art is required in order to analyze, interpret and evaluate it. Monika Kompanikova, an experienced and awarded author for children and adults, created a multimedia project for children called Toddler Punk: Tulino’s Musical Stories (Monokel Publishing House) in 2019. The project includes a collection of fairy tales and song lyrics that are also part of a music album of the same name. This project has become very popular, so its critical reflection is required, since in contemporary works for children and youth there are many products (especially on the internet), whose artistic value is (below) average. These products are sold and subsequently overly positively evaluated because of the influence of effective illustrations or marketing. This implies the need to stabilize the axiological dimension of creation for children. The aim of the study was to analyze, interpret and evaluate artistic and aesthetic value of textual, illustrative and musical components of the multimedia project for children called Toddler Punk: Tulino’s Musical Stories. In the study a qualitative methodology was applied, the research methods were literary theoretical analysis and interpretation of art products – qualitative content analysis of products. The musical part of the project seems to be very beneficial (especially) in the Slovak context, as it rarely shows quality and alternative music for children’s recipients. On the contrary, fairy tales and illustrations in the book are qualitatively lagging behind the musical component. Despite the above mentioned shortcomings, the multimedia project for children called Toddler Punk: Tulino’s Musical Stories by Slovak author Monika Kompanikova and the team represents a beneficial impulse in creation for Slovak children.
