ABORTION FROM THE RUSSIAN STUDENTSВ’ POINT OF VIEW
Abstract
The article contains a sociological analysis of Russian students’ position in relation to an important problem of science meddling into human reproduction sphere, to new scientific reproduction technologies that are supposed to meet the challenges of new generation reproduction and population control. The research covers the attitude of the young people to traditionally discussed technology of induced termination of pregnancy (abortion). The respondents included representatives of the most reproductively active part of population – young people in the age of 18-25 years, the students of higher educational institutions who study Economy, Engineering, Humanities and Medicine in Kursk (Russia). As Russia is currently experiencing a demographic crisis, that is thought by many to be related with excessively tolerant Russian legislation regulating induced termination of pregnancy, the authors have paid special attention to abortion issues and have studied the reasons that can make young people resort to this method and their readiness to do it. The authors study the opinion of students about abortion as a medical procedure, as a psychological stress for a woman, as an actual serious ethical problem.
