THE FOCUS OF DESCRIPTIVE ASSESSMENT TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEEDS AND PROGRESS OF STUDENTS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Abstract

The development of modern education is a necessity for the development and modernization of the assessment system, and not just in terms of assessing student achievement, but also in relation to monitoring their development needs and specifying their progress. In this respect, descriptive assessment plays an important role because it allows evaluation of a large scale of student opportunities, abilities and accomplishments and gives recommendations for further progress of students. The question of descriptive assessment is very topical whenever even the smallest step is made towards the transformation of primary education. It is well known that any change in teaching necessarily involves a series of changes in the organization and implementation of teaching process, and specific changes in behavior and teachers work. Lately, since primary education has started being reconstructed, issues and problems in the areas of assessment are becoming numerous and complex and their resolution paths are often very rocky. The aim of this paper is to empirically investigate whether, and to what extent descriptive marks indicate the developmental needs of students and make recommendations for further progress. The sample consisted of 108 teachers ho, during this study, implemented descriptive grading, and of 25 expert associates (pedagogues) from schools who were part of this study. This study showed a significant level of implementation of descriptive grading which is a very important component of motivation.
