An extensive literature is devoted to the origin of reindeer breeding; moreover, there is no common opinion on the time and centers of reindeer herding, the ways and forms of its distribution. Some researchers saw in the reindeer herding the oldest form of cattle breeding, which goes back almost to the Palaeolithic traditions. This point of view was supported by V.G. Bogoraz, G.P.
